Sports Massage

Sports massage isn’t just for athletes

A sports massage is a great way to keep your body in tip-top condition. But it’s not just for athletes. It’s suitable for non-athletes as well as sportspeople and can help ease injuries, chronic pain, muscle aches and restricted movement.

Sports-specific massage is effective for releasing muscle tension and restoring balance to the muscular-skeletal system, optimising flexibility and maintaining a healthier physical state.

For non-athletes

In non-athletes, sports massage can help relieve day-to-day problems such as repetitive strain injury, sprains, work related tension and fatigue.

It can help with:

  • Acute and chronic lower back pain and sciatica
  • Neck pain, cervicogenic headaches, migraine prevention
  • Sports injuries including: cramp, tennis and golfer’s elbow
  • Frozen shoulder and other shoulder pain
  • Hip and knee pain from osteoarthritis
  • Fibromyalgia, rheumatic pain, digestive and circulatory problems

For athletes

Fitness training, whether as preparation for running a marathon or just to keep fit, can take its toll on your body. A sports-specific massage can help:

  • During your conditioning / training phase
  • Pre and post competition
  • Following travel
  • Both injury prevention and recovery

When training regularly, the constant build up of tension in your muscles can cause stress in your joints, ligaments and tendons. In turn, this can create problems and imbalances in the soft tissues.

Regular massage treatments will help you to minimise or avoid common injuries, such as:

  • Strained muscles
  • Stiffness in muscles and joints
  • Runner’s knee
  • Achilles tendonitis
  • Iliotibial Band (ITB) issues

If ignored, these problems may lead to chronic, long-term injuries, which can, of course, affect your improvement and performance.

Sports massage helps mobility and enhances strength

A sports massage can also aid mobility, increase your energy levels and often improve the rate at which your body recovers from injury and illness.

Many athletes use massage to enhance their strength, performance and speed, as it helps to remove toxins and lactic acid after you’ve exercised.
